COMMENDING DR. BELUR V. DASARATHY

AS RECIPIENT OF

THE INSTITUTE OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERS

THIRD MILLENNIUM MEDAL

WHEREAS, it is with immense pride that the Alabama Senate recognizes and honors Dr. Belur V. Dasarathy as recipient of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Third Millennium Medal; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Dasarathy received his Bachelor of Engineering degree at the University of Mysore, India, his Master's of Engineering and his PhD degrees at the Indian Institute of Science in India; additionally, he has held numerous teaching positions with the Indian Institute of Science, Southern Methodist University, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville; and

WHEREAS, he has authored and published numerous technical papers on fuzzy logic, pattern recognition, neural nets, decision theory, sensor fusion, target recognition systems, optimal adaptive learning systems, image analysis and processing, and data compression, and has also written a number of technical reference books and textbooks, including ones on pattern classification techniques, decision fusion and image data compression; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Dasarathy has provided significant support to the IEEE, including service as chairman of the Huntsville IEEE Computer Fair, and serving as section chair, vicechair, and editor of the LiveWire Newsletter; and

WHEREAS, he has over 10 years of experience in project management, product development, and personnel management while employed with Intergraph Corporation, Computer Sciences Corporation, and Dynetics; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of his long service to IEEE, he was awarded the 1996 Huntsville Section Outstanding Engineer Award, and was appointed to the Computer Society Technical Advances Board; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to honor persons of the caliber of Dr. Belur V. Dasarathy, who have made innumerable contributions to the great State of Alabama, its citizens, and to our way of life as a whole; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That in recognition of his outstanding work and contributions to the field of electrical and electronic engineering, Dr. Belur V. Dasarathy is hereby commended as recipient of the IEEE Third Millennium Medal and it is further resolved that he be presented a copy of this resolution with sincere best wishes for continued success.
